The Finish Line
I’ve seriously neglected my blog in observation of NaNoWriMo out of sheer necessity. This is the first year I’ve actively participated in Nano. Meaning, I made an account a few years ago and didn’t do shit with it.
This year though, I made a few promises to myself…
First, I would complete the 50,000 words. No if, ands, or buts! I hit my goal on November 25th and I validated my 55,209 words the next day.
Second, I joined a Savvy Authors Nano team. Today is the last day and I can honestly say, I still don’t know what the prize is if our team wins, but then, my prize is meeting new people and having my team hold me accountable. So far, it’s worked fantastically. We hover somewhere near third or fourth place. That History Lovers crew is kicking some serious Nano ass!
Third, I would use Nano to finish my book. I’m about to accomplish this also. I’m down to the nitty gritty where I’m not necessarily writing whole scenes anymore. Instead I’m fleshing out the last couple of incomplete ones.
The “What’s Next” faze is looming and I’m not going to lie, it makes me a little scared to type “The End” on my last page which will be happening sometime in the next couple of days. I actually have to let people read it now?
Like most NaNoWriMo participants, I woke up from the marathon of November to find Thanksgiving passed in a blur and Christmas loomed in my very near future. And I haven’t done my Christmas shopping. I have three daughters. This is bad. Very, very bad! On top of that, they’re in high school and college and very hard to shop for. We all know they really want money, but that seems so effortless and it sucks to wrap. I’m all about how those presents look under that tree. It’s an art form!
Today we decorated our house and I resolved to do every bit of Christmas shopping online…tomorrow.
December is for my family. My book will sit and marinate for a while before I go back to it and start the long process of polishing it. In the meantime, I’ve outlined book two and although I won’t hold myself to the 1667 daily word count of Nano, I will write daily. Some days might yield a few hundred words, others a few thousand. Every word will mean success!
